How many of you had to experiment and research coffee when replicating your favorite coffee drinks? The pandemic has resulted in people resorting to homemade coffee.

With different ways of making coffee blends, it all comes down to the bean. Coffee beans are loaded with health benefits including antioxidants that strengthen our immunity and uplift our mood. Brews made of fresh coffee beans taste more flavorful and offer a rich experience.

Here’s your guide to different kinds of coffee beans:

Arabica Coffee Beans

Arabica beans are popular due to their superior taste. They are grown at high altitudes in areas such as Costa Rica, Mexico, and Brazil. Arabica beans are dark green and more prominent than other beans.

The beans are known for their sweet, smooth, and mild aromatic taste. If you’re looking for a flavor similar to chocolates and hazelnuts, this is your go-to coffee bean. Even though Arabica beans are not the strongest, they achieve the perfect balance. Some varieties of Arabica beans include Bourbon, Typica, and Gesha.

Robusta Coffee Beans

Robusta coffee beans are the second most popular coffee bean. They are grown in lower altitude areas of Vietnam and West Africa. They have low production costs and are hardier, and thus less susceptible to pests. Robusta beans are the strongest and contain around 2.1% caffeine, doubled that of Arabica.

Robusta beans are perfect for dark roasts and espressos because of their strong bitter taste. Some forms of decaffeinated coffee also contain robusta beans.

Liberica Coffee

Liberica coffee beans are quite rare and used in less than 2% of the world’s coffee production.

Liberia coffee beans are mostly grown in the Philippines and have a much stronger taste than both Arabica and Robusta beans. Liberica beans are sweeter than Arabica and have a hint of citrus and chocolate-like flavor.

Excelso Coffee

This coffee is scarce and only exported from Columbia. The coffee beans are large and contain a rich citrus taste. They have a very distinct flavor, native to Columbia’s fruits.
